On January 28, 1886, Collis P. Huntington founded The Chesapeake Dry Dock and Construction Company. It was his dream to build a shipyard where the greatest ships in the world would be built – 130 years later, that dream continues to be a reality.
During 2016, we will recognize this important anniversary through employee communications, social media and on this website. We are also honored to share video messages from people across Virginia congratulating Newport News Shipbuilding on this milestone. Check the website often as it will be an ongoing celebration with new and interesting photos and history.
Congratulations on continuing our founder’s legacy of building “Always Good Ships.”
