Tom Johnston is vice president of contracts and pricing at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, located in Newport News, Va. Named to this position in 2003, Johnston has overall responsibility for contracts, pricing and export/import licensing and compliance for the Newport News shipyard.
Before joining the Newport News shipyard in 2003, Johnston served as director of finance and business management for Lockheed Martin's Maritime Systems and Sensors business segment. In this position, he represented Lockheed Martin in the Northrop Grumman/Lockheed Martin collaboration for the George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) warfare system and the Arsenal ship project. In addition, he was the principal architect for Lockheed Martin in establishing the Northrop Grumman/Lockheed Martin joint venture for the U.S. Coast Guard's multibillion dollar Deepwater Project. He began his career with Lockheed Martin's Aero and Naval Systems division in 1983 and has more than 28 years of contracts and business management experience.
In 1983 Johnston received his bachelor's degree in business administration, summa cum laude, from Towson University. He is a member of the National Contract Management Association and is a life member of the United States Navy League.
