The 10th ship in the Virginia class of submarines (VCS), Minnesota (SSN 783) joins the ranks of an elite group of nuclear-powered stealth warships. It will be the fifth VCS ship to be delivered by Newport News Shipbuilding.

Minnesota Successfully Completes Sea Trials

Minnesota (SSN 783)

On May 6, Minnesota returned to Newport News Shipbuilding after successfully completing alpha sea trials. Ahead of schedule by 11 months, the submarine will be the fifth Virginia-class submarine to be delivered by NNS to the United States Navy. Minnesota (SSN 783) will be the third U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of the 32nd state. Minnesota's commissioning is scheduled for September 7, 2013.

It is the 10th of the Virginia-class submarines, which are being built under a special teaming agreement between NNS and General Dynamics Electric Boat. Read more about building Minnesota.
