Meet Minnesota

The 10th ship in the Virginia class of submarines (VCS), Minnesota (SSN 783) joins the ranks of an elite group of nuclear-powered stealth warships. It is the fifth Virginia-class submarine delivered by Newport News Shipbuilding.

Delivered to the U.S. Navy

On June 6, Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) delivered Minnesota (SSN 783) to the U.S. Navy on budget and nearly 11 months ahead of schedule. The submarine is the fifth Virginia-class submarine to be delivered by NNS. Minnesota (SSN 783) will be the third U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of the 32nd state. Minnesota's commissioning is scheduled for September 7, 2013.
