Lifetime Servicing
Service of each carrier does not end after delivering it to the Navy. We service the ships through their lifetime, including a mid-life 4-year project that refuels the nuclear reactors (RCOH).
The Ford-class of Carriers
Forty years after the first Nimitz-class carrier, the first of a new class is being built in our docks: Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). The ship features new technology that will save the Navy money.

The aircraft carrier has played a significant role in America's national defense for over 80 years, extending our military reach beyond what was previously possible. The U.S. Navy pioneered landing planes on ships, and Newport News Shipbuilding has been closely involved in the evolution of the aircraft carrier ever since.
